Do I Need Endodontic Treatment?

Root canal therapy is usually indicated if the pulp inside the root canal becomes inflamed or infected. This could result from tooth decay, a crack or a chip in the tooth, or an injury. If left untreated, pulp inflammation often causes severe tooth pain, and may even cause an abscess. You are also at increased risk of tooth loss because the infection can weaken the bone that keeps a tooth attached to your jaw.

The Root Canal Procedure

During your root canal treatment, our endodontist, the root canal specialist, will remove the diseased pulp, and clean, shape, and sterilize the hollow area of your tooth. Next is filling then sealing the space using a rubbery material called gutta-percha, followed by placing a dental crown to restore your tooth to its strength, form, and function.
